Smith & Wesson M&P 45, reliable? Good?

I'm comparing the "Glock 21" .45 Caliber semi-auto to the Smith & Wesson "M&P 45" .45 Caliber semi-auto for overall function and reliability. I've looked at them both and prefer the S&W for the feel/comfort.

Are they both fairly equal, or does one have a strong edge over the other?

    I have both.I agree the M&P feels better,and maybe I got a lemon but it has had some issues that should not happen.Roll pin holes wallowed out till the pin would not hold,weak springs,and accuracy is not very good.S&W fixed the mechanical problems under warranty with no problem,but what next.The Glock is ugly and pretty heavy with 13 rounds but its been absolutly reliable and the most accurte 45 I have ever shot.

    3,000 rounds through mine without a problem. Reliable and accurate. Traded in my Glocks for the S&W M&P line.

    Like my Glocks but the M&P's fit me better. IMO both are equal when it comes to reliability and accuracy.

    Still considering everything, actually. It's just that those two seem to hit me, even though I just got a Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum... :)

    The guns are roughly the same in terms of function. The better gun is the one you like better.

    If you prefer the feel of the Smith (and who can blame you?), go for the Smith.

    I have had both. I liked the feel of the M&P and stayed with that. I would go with which one I could shoot the best.

    I prefer the G21...I have fired the S&W but as I have large hands It did not fit me as well as the Glock....

    If the S&W fits your hands then that is the gun for you.....

    M&P's trigger seems quicker and shoots great. I like it way better than a Glock. Both are some what similar. M&P's jointed trigger in my opinion is a step forward from what a Glock has because it can be activated from non-centered finger contact easier. You would have to be careful with both when carrying because the safety is in the trigger and the triggers seem EXTREMELY light. It seems person can easily accidentally shoot himself in the leg drawing from a concealed holster if not well rehearsed from training. Like a snag in a panic situation. Anyway, the trigger seems quicker on the M&P. The 1st time I shot a Glock it scared me how light the trigger was & I hit the target's center with little effort. It almost seemed I couldn't creep up to where it breaks. The M&P went so quick I experienced a feeling of panic and it scared the the S**t out of me(figuratively not literal). I easily hit the target's center but I needed a moment to compose myself from the sudden panic for succeeding shots as my buddy laughed at me. The Glock seems to have more accessories and custom parts. So they're not totally equal. We still await a jam of any kind after 1200 rounds through the M&P. You decide...

    I have both and also an XD-45. All are fine pistols and you should get the one that fits the best and that you can shoot the best. My order of preference and relative ranking. The M&P gets a black mark due to the more complicated disassembly. You have to get push down the seer before you can take off the slide and I always forget to do this.

    XD-45 - 10 out of 10
    G-21 - 9 out of 10
    M&P 45 - 7 out of 10
