The 45 Colt is a Cartridge with a very small rim . S&W DID?DOES make a pistol designed to shoot 45ACP but also the cartridge named the 45AUTO- RIM For the most part Half moon clips fit in the extractor groove of the 45acp and then the case head sets too far back to allow the half moon clip and case head to fit between the back of the cylinder and recoil shield of the pistol to allow the cylinder to close on a double action revolver or cylinder to turn on a single action revolver. If you lived near me I would GIVE you a half moon clip and a few rounds of 45ACP but see if one of your buddies has what you need to try. This is a private joke but ASK ECC THE MODERATOR OF ONE OF THESE FORUMS

The short answer is yes, but it requires another cylinder chambered for the .45 ACP, properly fitted at the barrel / cylinder gap.
The .45 ACP is dimentionally smaller than the .45 LC case and should not be fired in a .45LC chamber. Be advised that the bore and groove diameters of the two can be different: the .45LC designed to use lead bullets. This can be an accuracy issue.

Ruger on the Black Hawk frame made such a handgun. [8D]

If I have a wheel gun designated for .45 colt, can I shoot 45acp(rimless) in it? And who would have "moon clips" for it?

    ask ECC[:D]

BTW, sane people wouldn't do that. As Gap1916 pointed out, Ruger makes/made a Blackhawk w/the 2 different cylinders.

I wouldn't try to shoot .45ACP out of my S&W 25 in 45 Colt, but that's just me[:)]

    Not in an unaltered gun.
There are several gunsmiths who will mill the rear of your cylinder to clear clips for .45 ACPs in a .45 Colt gun. Some say accuracy is ok, some say not.

I own an Italian copy of the early single action Remington 45colt that Frank James used to hawk for them. It was imported by EMF of southern Calif and came with a 45acp cylinder as well as the45colt cylinder. It works and shoot great.....

I have shoot the 625 S&W Mountain gun using ACP and Long Colt, the ACP at 15 yards was a tack driver! I think someone made a revolver that would fire the Auto Rim, I think it was S&W, I know it was a combo revolver, I could be wrong.
