can anyone tell me how the 25-06 ackely imp. compares to other calibers close to it. example, 264 mag,

First, the 25-06AI won't push as heavy a bullet. That is unless you get a tight twisted barrel and find some heavy for caliber bullets. Those are very hard to find in .25 Cal. Since Wildcat Bullets got sold to a guy in Elko, NV he has only been making 200 gr. 7mm bullets.
But, if you are comparing 120 gr. in .257 to 120 gr. in .264 then it will push them just about as fast. How long you want your brass and barrel to last is really the question then. On the lighter end of the spectrum for .264 bullets the 25-06 will stay right up with it. Brass attainability I would actually have to give to the 25-06 because you can use any case parented by the 30-06 and neck/form it. There is still .264 Win brass being made though so attainability for that should be about what the 25-06 is.
With either one you could have a very hot, flat shooting, cartridge capable of extreme long range. The edge there would go to the .264, but the 25-06 AI can get it done quite well too.0 -
I wish that we had heavier .25 caliber bullets, with very good BCs readily available, they would be quite useful.
The 6mm, .25 and 6.5s are fun shooting. The 25-06 AI may well be my favorite (actually, one of my favorites!) ... so far, but have to give some of the 6.5s a good run yet!

I own both calibers. the .264 in a winchester m70, the25.06imp on a mdl 24 yugo mauser. for hunting deer and antelope, there is little differance. both shoot a 120 grain bullet very flat, and if you chose a good tough bullet, will down your game fast. both are finike to load for, need to be at top velocity for best accrocy, but be careful, you can blow primers real quick!! my 25.06 can go from a one hole group to 2" group for no reason, and the 264 thickens case necks fast, streaches cases bad. take your pick. 0
