I'd guess it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
$4500? ... not out of my pocket.

I am assuming he told his wife he would "try" and sell it.

This way he can say " Darn Honey, it didn't sell".

He wants more than I'd pay--but he does appear to have sold some high dollar guns so guess as the saying goes-one is born every minute http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=158216964

Great looking NM Garand! Nice price, too but you get what you pay for and with the box and papers probably (?) worth the bottom price. Make me run to the gunsafe and grab and hug my Oct '43 Springfield Garand!

Mine is the one I carried in Korea. Has been re-built into MATCH GRADE at Barstow. To some not worth much, but to me PRICELESS. Not enough money in the world to buy it.

    For GOD and COUNTRY

    Not as Lean[:D][}:)]
    Not as Mean[}:)][}:)]
    But still a MARINE

I'm sure you fellas have nice rifles, but a "Type 2 National Match" is a specific, collectible rifle that would have value to a collector of M1 rifles.

However, the seller cannot document that that is what he is selling. A prudent buyer would assume that if he could get documentation from CMP, he would have before he tried to sell it.

I would guesstimate that he might be able to sell it in the $1,500-2,000 range. But, obviously, he is too cautious to take a chance on "the market".

I would say it's at the top end. Just being a 6mil rifle means its worth at least a 1000 to 1500, possibly more. Just being a NM means its worth 2000 to 3000. Being what it is, just add the two values together. It is a rare rifle that could fill two separate niches.[;)]
