Bullseye Pistol Sight Suggestion

Can anyone recomend an adjustable rear sight for a Colt 1991A1 that will be used for bullseye shooting? I dont want to put a full rail on, and I dont want to use a red dot. Something that would fit the existing dovetail. Thanks.

    Check with FUSION they make a modern replacement for the older BOMAR sight.Bomar and also Kensight Micro & Triangle were used on the Military National Match Pistols. If you cant find one any where else double click on my name and send me a email I have a supply of these but don't really want to sell any . I build match pistols with original OLD SCHOOL parts.

    Thank You. I knew you would have the answer. I will do some looking and see what I come up with.
    While I have your attention, would you suggest getting a .22 conversion slide for practice, or is it not worth it? Money is tight, and Im still reading up on hand loading.

    You might have to replace the front sight if you just use something like a Bomar in the rear dovetail. It's no big thing as long as you don't want to keep the Colt in original condition. Colt front sights are staked in and are easily replaced.

    Years back I had a number of adjustable rear sights on military pistols. These were short and could be used with the original front sights. I believe Brownells still carries similar adjustable rear sights, that can be used with the original front. I believe these small adjustable rear sights are made in Italy.

    Do you plan on having the gun accurized? If so, the gunsmith can provide and install sights along with refitting everything else.

    Regulation bullseye shooting has a smallbore stage.
    A GOOD .22 conversion like a Marvel Unit 1 would outfit you for a complete 2700 match, and cut ammo costs for practice.

    It used to be recommended that you start out with a .22 and concentrate on the smallbore events, building up to centerfire and bigbore competition as you gained skills.

    Conversion to .22:

    Marvel is available and very good. Kimber and Ceiner need Hi-vel and cannot scope mount easily. Advance (if you can get one)seems the best since it was a Bob Marvel design that added some nice features over the original.

    Thanks for the help. My local hardware store had a Ceiner slide sitting on the shelf for awhile. I thought about buying it and fitting it with the same sight as I would ut on the .45 for practice. Then I found the Fusion sight is 100 bucks. It looks like what I want. I think Ill start handloading sooner than later.

    As far as very few conversion units will give the kind of accuracy that you will need for Bulls-Eye shooting. I will try to name the ones I know and either have or used. The earliest was the DAY 30X great unit shot very very good groups but out of production 30+ years Plus had an aluminum slide that had a weak point on the rails to the recoil spring and would develop a crack if you shot ammo that was too strong for the recoil spring.Then came the Kart again a Great unit and What I am shooting today Out of production 20 + years all steel slide and barrel shroud too heavy to mount red dot on steel barrel shroud however aftermarket aluminum shroud available. The shroud has no load bearing need as it only holds the red dot .Then came the Peter Stald "spelling" good unit but poor extractor and ejector. then the Marval original made and designed by Bob Marval Great unit but does not hold the slide back after last shot A bummer in match shooting you don't want to count the number of shots fired and you dont want to dry fire . Now advantage arms After Bob Marval was bought out he helped Advanage arms get their conversion unit up & going there are two models one as a plinker and the other a TARGET MATCH grade. the target Match grade has a LONG waiting list. IMHO all the other conversion units are PLINKER grade as the barrels are only held in place buy the slide stop pin and the front by a bushing . All these unit have a lot of slop. the target grade units Have a way to LOCK the barrel to the frame and only the back half of the slide moves.
