Gemtec G5 suppressor needs cleaning
Have a Gemtec G5 suppressor on my Glock 19 that needs cleaning bad. Was once told to just run WD-40 inside the G5 however none of build up has ever come out. Any suggestions? You can email me directly

No point in using WD-40 as it is a water displacer (WD) not a cleaner or carbon eater.
I would contact Gemtech and see what they suggest. Different materials react differently to different cleaners. Depending on what materials that silencer is made from any cleaner that will eat carbon may eat the silencer. I looked on the Gemtech site and it is not listed so I cant answer that question.
Why do you think the silencer needs cleaned? How much ammo has been run though it? What style of bullet?0 -
147 grain 9mm subsonics. Anything supersonic and the suppressor is worthless. I have put at least 1000 rounds through it so far. Want some pics? 0 -
Pictures will not tell me what materials it is made from. Again depending on the material will depend on what kind of cleaner you can used with it. CLP will be able to clean anything but will still not eat chunks.
I have over 4K of my hand loads though an integral 9mm AR can and no need to clean it yet.

I was going to send you pics of the build up. My guess is 100% aluminum, since it is extremely light weight and looked like polished aluminum when I first bought it. 0 -
I belive a ultrasonic cleaner is needed to clean it. That's what most makers of suppressors recomend. At least for the ones that don't come apart. 0 -
Gemtech say: "All sound suppressors require some degree of maintenance if maximum efficiency is to be maintained. Those of our suppressors that are sealed are designed for maintenance and cleaning by immersion in suitable solvents. Suppressors that will not drain completely are designed for partial disassembly for maintenance. All suppressors manufactured by Gemtech come with detailed instructions for operation and maintenance."
Do your instructions say what is a "suitable solvent?" If not, call the maker and ask.0 -

When I bought this Gemtech I received it in a plastic bag and nothing more. What are those "Detailed instructions" for cleaning???

Maybe you should contact Gemtech for those instructions.

VERY bad idea with aluminum as it will eat it.
Works great on steel though.
Not sure on other metals.0
