Old spanish gun

I have an old double from the 30's its very nice and its has a silver in color receiver that is ornate and engraved. I wonder if I can polish this and what I should use. it feels like a soft metal. I don't think its steel. I was wondering if 0000 steel wool could be used?

  I would try some Flitz polish. Probably can get it at Wally World or a motorcycle shop. Hold off on the steel wool.
