    That's a little bit (or a gigantic bit) of an oversimplification.

    CMT may have been making receivers for Smith and Wesson at one time. . .but that does *NOT* mean that they made ALL the Smith receivers at ALL times.

    Also, and more important, there is a lot more to a rifle than just the receiver! In fact, given their relative parity of manufacture using automated machinery, the receivers are probably one of the LEAST important parts (ie they're all more or less the same).

    There's also the barrel, bolt carrier, trigger, and numerous other significant parts. Build quality matters too; it makes a difference how the parts are put together, and its possible to do so poorly.

    I don't know where Smith gets all its parts from, but I doubt they are all from CMT, and I'd suspect they may be making at least some of the parts in house.

    Also, I am *SURE* that Smith is building (assembling and testing) the guns in house, so its fair to say that Smith is "making" its own guns from that perspective (eg as opposed to just sticking its name on guns built by someone else).
