Winchester Trench Gun M97

OK....So I grabbed the Winchester that I had inquired on yesterday. Below are some pictures. I don't know much about trench guns, but I think I know a deal when I find one and feel that this was possibly a decent deal. I always find an extreme wealth of knowledge here and continue to appreciate the input.

Please review the pictures below and let me know your thoughts. I think the butt stock is a WWI, but I could be wrong. I think the heat shroud is not original, because it does not have any identifying marks on it what-so-ever, but I could be wrong. All the heat sheilds I have looked at either have a "W" on the left side or a patent date on the right side. ALL suggestions and input are appreciated. Also, I would like to know a realistic price in the condition it's currently in.

    Congratulations, you have won the jackpot. You now are in possession of one of the most collectible military firearms in existence. The price you paid makes it a great deal but just being able to own one of those makes it an outstanding deal. Smile and Grin when asked about it, show it to your friends and people that collect firearms.
    Get the bayonet or just place it in a nice safe. Oil it. Excellent decision.

    Thanks for the reply. What kind of a value (not that I'm selling) is associated with this firearm in this condition. Also, does anyone have a clue as to whether I am right or wrong on the butt stock & the heat sheild??

    MOONED...good for you! Luck favors the prepared mind! As I mentioned before, since your new purchase does not have the "GHD" and crossed cannon cartouche as it should by your serial #, I think it is a replacement stock. Everything else, including the four rows of vents (instead of six on the early WWII models) looks right. She is in rather rough shape but clean her up and, IMHO, you have increased your investment by about $1k! The Win Model 97 is the premier trench shotgun and you have the beginning of a good collection. Again, good job!
