SBR Question..

Can I take my existing DPMS Lite 16 and have it turned into an SBR? Also other thab the tax anyone know about how much this would cost? THX

    Yes, IF you live in a state that allows SBR. See the NFA FAQ above to find out.

    Cost is $200 for the making tax and whatever you spend in parts.

    I read the FAQ. THX. Do you know approx. how much it would cost to have a gunsmith cut the barrel and reattach the flash suppressor?

    Probably way more then selling or keeping your current upper and buying a second upper for your gun.

    You would need to talk to your gunsmith; this would likely come under the heading of "custom gunsmithing".

    With 10.5" & 14.5" barrels readily available, most folks would either buy a new barrel or a complete upper.

    I have seen the cost to cut down a barrel and rethread range from $170 to $300. And as always, plus tax.

    Ask Nwcid: Doesn't it have to be done by a Class II, or can any gunsmith do it?

    Again there is no reason other then a very custom build to have a gunsmith cut an AR barrel. Even with the 16" you can only cut it so far back before you run into the gas system. You can buy a "pistol" upper w/o bolt/carrier for under $400 easily.

    In the case of an AR upper barrel I am not aware of any reason that any gunsmith could not do it. The upper itself is NOT a NFA item. If you build an SBR AR the lower will become the registered part.
