Weaver KV
I recently bought an old rifle with a Weaver KV 2.75-5 on Weaver Pivot Mounts (known to be at least 35 years old) Is there a way for me to figure out the actual age, and what is it worth? There are no major scratches on the body, and the optics look clear. (No cracks , chips or scratches.)

It has all the information you need.
Gives dates of manufacture and current day collector values, ranges given according to condition.

I have several of those KV's. Keep in mind that they are not true variables--they are either/or (2 3/4 or 5X). They were made from 1950 to 1964. The book that mljackso reccommends lists a value at $100-$225 with the higher number being for one that is new in the box. In my experience, real world prices are closer to half that. They are pretty good scopes, I would suggest that you use it and enjoy it. 0 -

In really good condition they run around $100. Mine was about $50. It adds a really nice touch to my Savage 1899 (.250-3000) made in 1915. Of course the collectibility was disturbed when some guy, not thinking 40+ years ahead and drill and tapped it for that 1934 Pachmeyer scope mount.
I don't know which ones Ambrose has, but mine is a true variable. I took the cap off so you could maybe see.0 -
sandwarrior: What I was trying to explain is that the KV can be set at 2 3/4 or 5X but nothing in between (not that it matters much with the high and the low power that close together). The variables that we see now can be set at high, low, or anywhere in between. I guess I didn't state it very well. Sorry for the confusion. 0 -

I know what you meant. Mine does. It goes from one view @ 2.75x gradually larger to 5x. Not a whole lot of change, but it dials up. Just like the scopes of today. Not flips power settings, like an old prism type {edit: or doubler} apparatus.0
