colt double eagle

I have two questions regarding a 45 Colt Double Eagle Mk II series 90 Officers model LIGHTWEIGHT blue; first, has anybody ever seen one like this, and roughly what it would be worth in like new condition....thanks in advance for any info

    the main spring housing (plastic) broke.colt is of no help....anyone know where I can buy new one or may be even a metal one?

    Investment? Somebody* on this forum said somthing like: You can't predict what is going to be collectible and what is not. So, if you want collectible, buy a gun that is currently collectible, and put it in a box. Otherwise, buy the gun you like and shoot it.

    My answer is assuming the latter.

    Caliber: 45acp (shocking, I know), or possibly 9mm. If you look around and buy in bulk, these are going to be the least expensive calibers. Again the point of the pistol is to shoot it. If you use it for defense 45acp. If you use it for plinking only, 9mm as it is less expensive.

    I like the 1911 better than the Double Eagle because the DE has the same faults as a 1911 (heavy, low capacity) but gives up a couple of the benefits of a 1911 (Multitude of aftermarket parts / improvements, gunsmiths who are experts at making them shoot accurately and reliably).

    But again, it comes down to what feels good in your hand, and what you like to shoot.

    the double eagles were not popular with gun buyers and aren't that popular with collectors either. colt made lots of guns that were different or innovative for their time , but not all are valued by collectors. an example is the double eagle and the all american. specific models in those line can command more interest (money) like the 10mm double eagle or the alloy frame all american, but theyre never going to get the collector status or value of a vinttage 1911 or SAA.

    did'nt expect it to go to 1911 or SAA status thanks for input, just wanted opinions. for instance 38 super was made 1 yr. only, 9mm also, 10mm 2or 3 , 45auto 7yrs. also a 40sw out therequote:Originally posted by tplumeri

    Out of the bunch you listed, the 10MM is the most saught after, and most pricey at this time.
