I posted the Best Battle Rifle message and it is locked now.
I don't know what that means so I have entered a new Subject.

Thank you for everyone's input in that post.

Could I ask everyone if money was not an object?
When I say money I'm leaning toward modern day design.
And you wanted something in the range with the 308 power but not restricted to 308.
20 round capacity or more.
Semi automatic
What would your choice be if different than before?

Please note I have researched the ones mentioned here in the forum on the GB web.
Pricing is user friendly for all.
Here is what your help provided alphabetically.

Yes, I am gathering information to make a purchase for myself.
The wisdom on this forum is un-measurable and I don't mean to take advantage.
However I am very interested I your opinions.
Someone may want to ask, what do I want this gun to do?
Well, I have a good pistol and shot gun.
I would say in close quarters I have things covered.
Without getting political, I am getting nervous about terrorism and gangs.
Actually, terrorist are nothing but gang thugs anyway.in my opinion.
So if I want something that will shred a car at 100 yards and be fairly maneuverable, I would like to think I have the best thing for it. Most of the guns mentioned are very accurate at 300 yards.
I'm not interested in that distance but if it comes with the package so be it.

    Ask the experts posts are locked after (usually) 10 replies to keep it from degenerating into a general discussion.


    Cost no object? A full auto original browning (or other) belgian made FN-FAL, although if you like the l1a1 better an original Lithgow or similar would be appropriate.

    Go for the M1A/M14 rifle. You can get this with a 22" barrel length or a Scout version with an 18" barrel. Great gun, parts are readily available & has mags that go to 30 rounds. I have a Supermatch with a 22" barrel but kinda like to have a 18" version to toy with for shooting up to 400-500 yrds. The scout could be used in closer quarters using all the same parts as the full size rifle but with a 4" shorter barrel. The Supermatch is accurate to 800+ yrds. I feel for the SHTF issues or just plinking/shooting/hunting/all around use I would go with a Scout.

    That should be L1A1 which is the brit designation for the FAL in inch pattern (no last shot bolt hold open, different furniture, different mag release and selector but same basic functions w/ gas system, etc). I like the ergonomics of the metric pattern better, and the last shot hold open (but you can put a metric BHO into a inch pattern gun no problem to fix that part).

    Why not try shell deflector, forward assist, dust cover, FREE FLOATING handguard, and HEAVY 24" barrel.

    Yes I know the new LR's have been cheapened up with the Sportical upper too.

    OK your big difference is barrel/handguard length and stock. What else? (and lower on sportical is marked LR 308)

    Arlamlite AR10 A2 infantry is my favorite model that fits in this catigory. Reletively light weight, and as accurate as you need it to be. M14/M1A is too heavy IMHO, and a little jumpy in full auto. AR10 has been my favorite .308 battle rifle since I got it years ago. Love it!!

    The La Rue OBR 7.62 - If you have a year or two and money is no object. IMHO nothing you have on your list compares to this.
