Weaver/Olin
In the process of looking for something else this morning, I ran across an older Weaver box that once held scope lens caps. It's the 3"x4"x1", slip top, black on yellow box typical of part of the Weaver era. On the side of the box above the "W. R. Weaver Company, El Paso, Texas" is the "Olin" marking in larger letters. Now I vaugely remember that Weaver was once a part of Olin but does anybody remember when or any other details?

Early 80's. That's when they moved production to Jaypan. Same scopes and quality, just produced in aluminum to reduce weight and cost. Olin was a part of the CCI empire. Thay sold it to Meade who just recently sold it to ATK who is owner of Olin now. Get it all?[:D]
Thay are expanding the Weaver lines and still making some fine products. Luckily Meade didn't screw with the Weaver line like they did Simmons. Production of Weaver products remained with LOW (Light Optic Works) of Jaypan. They produce some of the finest glass lenses in the world.

Weaver made scopes for various vendors. J.C. Higgens, Sears, and Ted Williams come to mind. 0 -
In the Postwar years Olin Corporation experienced enormous success with firearms, specifically Winchester, and ammunition, primarily under the Winchester and Western names. Olin then went on to acquire some other related product lines, like Weaver scopes, and expanded into other parts of the sporting goods industry. By the early-'70s, virtually all of those activities were sold off or closed. Olin continues to own the Winchester name and still manufactures ammunition. While FNH-Browning now makes Winchester-branded firearms, the name is licensed from Olin. The only Olin-ATK connection I can find has to do with the Lake City Ammunition Plant. For many years, the government-owned facility was under management contract to Olin-Winchester. In about '99, Federal (now part of ATK) won the contract. CCI (also part of ATK) is the world's largest manufacturer of rimfire ammunition and is the only domestic manufacturing source for .17HMR; in other words, all US-made .17HMR ammo, regardless of brand, comes off CCI production lines, made to the specifications of and packaged for the other brands (Remington, Winchester, Federal, Hornady, etc.). 0
