Cant get K98 bolt back into rifle
Unfortunately I removed the bolt handle from a K98 with the safety to the left and not up as it is supposed to be and now I am unable to return it back into the receiver, because I believe that it is in the closed bolt position. I have tried disassembling it so as to be able to try and put the bolt handle in enough to trip the plunger to be able to turn the bolt itself enough to open the bolt so that I can turn the safety, but to no avail.

It is not working, as I have got the plunger to go in and the bolt head doesn't pop out so that I can flip the safety and put the bolt back into the rifle. 0 -
Had one shipped to me with the bolt out of the received and in the closed position.
I do not remember any magic steps, but I ended up using a neoprene glove to give a good grip on the body of the bolt carrier and only then being able to rotate the bolt into the open position.
Good luck.0 -
Damn if I cant get this thing to work, it absolutely will not budge, tried gloves but they were a bit cumbersome, my hands are hurting pretty good now and I have tried everything except 'pissing on a sparkplug'. No bolt should be nearly that difficult to do and I think would have been fixed a while ago and will just have to take it to a gunsmith, but thanks for the help though, we tried, just one of those things I guess. 0 -
Finally it worked, actually everyone's suggestions were helpful to fixing this problem including that last link, but I also had to finally take the bolt apart from there to reset it as the bolt didn't want to pop out and after re-assembling it works great. Geez, certainly wont do that again and now I know why the germans were so pissed off.LOL[:D]
Thanks everyone for the help.0 -

Was at auction once bidders were previewing nice 98 Mauser when someone tripped the bolt off. Everyone else could not get the bolt back in. I just stood back and watched, when it went up for bid I got it at 1/2 price !, no one else bid! Took it home put the bolt on the table edge, cocked it turned it and into the cabinet. 0
