Remington 1100 magnum -altered
I just bought a rem 1100 3" magnum.Somebody has cut the barrel down to 24" and threaded a screw in full choke into the end of the barrel.They also moved the sight bead back to the new end of the barrel.Also and this is relates to my question they made the gas port larger on the barrel.I was told this was made into a bird gun.Now if it will fire 2 3/4 shells.Will it also shoot 3" shells?I believe a gun smith did the work it looks great.Is it now safe to fire both 2 3/4 and 3" shells?

If it will reliably cycle with standard 2 3/4" shells, I would not use 3" in it. It will cycle too violently, at the least accelerating wear. You can, of course, get another 3" chambered barrel and use that with the longer shell. 0 -

Actualy a three inch 1100 will shoot 2 3/4 shells but only in the heavier loadings. People are always trying to get their 3" gun to shoot "trap loads" as well as the sky busting stuff. If you make it so, you live with it ! What "smith" should we be avoiding ? 0 -
I do not know who did what they did to the gun.I do know that I live in FIELD TRIAL country.I figure that who ever had the gun altered. Did so because of money.Had a Remington 3" mag and needed a bird gun so a local gun smith converted the gun for him.All it needs now is a 3"mag 30" barrel and he will have a small bird gun and a Turkey gun.Thank you guys for all your help !!It is nice to be able to ask a question and get the right answer !![^] 0 -
Sad part is that he probably could have bought a used 2 3/4 inch chambered barrel, in used condition, for the same money he paid the "smith" to ruin the old barrel. Then he could have swapped barrels as he pleased. 0
