Has anyone recently seen as nice of a Weaver V8 as this? I just took it in.

I took this off from a Remingtom Model 740, in equally as good of shape. He is replacing the scope with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40, to gain some brightness, and better crosshair definition.

    Yep, that's nice one!

    I'm fond of the early Weavers in all of their guises. Best of all, they provide a period representation for some of the old rifles in our collections. They may not have the newest and greatest coatings or the next technological advancement in glass but they certainly are very useful for for the average hunter/shooter.

    tsr1965...yep, great looking Weaver V8. I have a Weaver V12 that looks just as good sitting on top of my Remington Varmit Special 22-250 from the day that has bagged many a woodchuck over the last forty years +. Great scope in the day! Wish I had more of them!

    I remember when they came out. I was working at Baron's Sporting Goods in Duboistown, Pa. Across the river from Williamsport. I have three of them at present. Two are mounted & the third is waiting for just the right rifle. Does yours have the triplex crosshairs or standard single wire. All mine are standard. I want a three wire though. Heck, I'm gonna bid on yours just because it looks so nice. Ed

    Sorry, but it is a single wire, but I can tell you this...it is as clear and crisp as the day it came out of the box. It just doesn't have the brightness(light gathering) afforded by our newest wave of coatings from the last 10 years.

    Nice Scope! I can think of a few rifles of mine that belongs on top of. Too bad I've got a project or two first up in priority.[:D]

    One thing I always like about those old Weavers, is they are about as solid today still as the way they came out of the factory back in the '40's-'70's. The light gathering of the glass left a lot to be desired, but most of the glass back then did as well.

    I spent a lot of time as a kid behind either a K-3, K-4 or K-6. I'll sure say jackrabbits are hard to hunt with one about sundown. That's when we'd get the truck and shine them in the headlights for an effective night of varmint control.

    Besides, if you really meant it it's POS not POC. POC is the acronym which uses the FCC approved word which therefore carries less emphasis. I tend to look at these old Weaver scopes as though they were a POH (piece of History). Which like many older scopes they are.
    Except, as I noted in my first post that they were built very solid. A number of technologies have been used over the years to make scopes much better all around. So, these old POH's, don't necessarily compare well to the newer scopes. However, one thing that went away with some of the more 'affordable' scopes, (as Weaver was in it's day) was durable, reliability. Therefore, if you continue to contend that this V8 is a POC, I would have to contend you don't know YA/HG and therefore you are FOS.

    WELL Mr. "EXPERT" PLEASE go and get this scope!!! I had one and couldn't keep a gouping better then 24" at 100 yd.s! I only tried to pass on my hard earn "first hand experience" to you, BUT if that that quality you're looking for PLEASE prove me wrong!!!

    I have it in my possesion right now...that is my auction...I do know how it shoots, as I have shot it.
