45 ACP Semi-auto Rifles
You don't see much in the way of a 45ACP rifle.
Does anyone know of one that looks like an ordinary rifle with maybe a clip that is reliable?
Are there any new ones out there? I was trying to avoid the "Thompson" look although it was well made.

I guess it depends on what you consider ordinary.
You have;
AR-15 style guns in .45
Beretta Storm
HK USC
Thompson (as you stated)
Marlin Camp 45
Another good choice might be get a Mech-tech system, http://www.mechtechsys.com/ for your pistol
If you are looking for a .45 cal gun and wanted to go .45 Colt there is a whole bunch of cowboy style guns.

WOW, that was really bad that I missed that one since I own one. Problem is feeding them as 16rd mags sell in excess of $100 all the time.0 -

have the thompson,fun,reliable,hardly any recoil,BUTwatch out if you get the M1 military model...1 magazine will set you back a nice steak dinner for 2 maybe 3...0 -
Marlin used to make on in 9 and 45 that was called the Camp Carbine. Used Colt magazines, among others. 0 -

The out-of-production Marlin is probably going to be the closest in appearance to an "ordinary" sporting rifle you're likely to find.
In theory a Reising model 60 would meet your criteria as an ordinary looking semiauto .45ACP rifle, but these were only made for a short time after WWII, and are highly scarce. If you could even find one, I'd imagine it would be astronomically expensive, and I don't think this is a practical answer.
I'm not entirely sure if these would meet your criteria, but there are a few more esoteric rifles in .45 ACP that you might consider.

If bolt actions are your thing, I've seen conversions for both ordinary Mauser and Enfield rifles into .45ACP, and they're not super expensive. Those would REALLY give you the look of an "ordinary" rifle, though they aren't semi-automatic. If I remember right, the famous Delisle silenced .45ACP carbine was a modified Enfield.0 -
Beantown- you recall well. The DeLisle was a merger of a SMLE and a Thompson SMG barrel. Incredibly quiet. 0 -
There have been a few guys that have made 45 FN-FALs as well.
If you don't mind straying from semi auto, Rhineland arms used to offer conversion kits that used a 1911 mag for both small and large ring mausers and the enfield bolt guns. You could even go SBR and put a suppressor on it and make yourself a DeLisle carbine.0 -

I suppose the biggest drawbacks of using modified standard rifles is the weight and cost. If you have an AR, a .45 caliber upper would probably be a good choice. It will cost about the same as a Marlin Camp Carbine but would be shipable to your door and operate on a familiar platform. 0 -

There's usually a pretty good reason for this such as low demand and no need for the concept in the first place.
The use of a rifle and rifle length barrels for the .45 ACP cartridge is superfluous since the cartridge was designed for pistol length barrels. The ballistics do not improve that much by going to a longer barrel.

The proper term is MAGAZINE not clip.
You need to define what you mean by 'ordinary'.

The new ones have been listed above. Out of those, the Beretta Storm is the one that I've had the most experience with in the recent past. It is superb in .45 ACP, well worth the price of the firearm.

True about "magazine". I had a pistol pictured in my mind when I wrote this (senior moment).
I checked out the Storm again at the Beretta web site. For some reason they don't offer the hi-cap "magazine" with the 45ACP but do with the 9mm & 40S&W. I wonder if it in the works. If you look at the design, you can see a pistol configuration in it. I like the looks of the Storm.
My problem is accuracy and the 45ACP seems to be my worst but I like the cartridge. I was thinking that a rifle configuration would allow a ghost ring, red dot or something plus a stock.
Been working my way up the calibers over time and am up to the 45 at the moment. I can see why it has so many followers.
I have a few 45ACP pistols and a lot of trouble with jamming. That doesn't help either. Had to throw on the brakes and ask some questions here before my next move.

There is a local retired smith that I met during a yard sale a few years ago that tunes up 1911's and the like. Spoke with him for a while and he is loaded with parts and a lifetime of knowledge. That was just before I bought my first 45. My next step is to track him down again. He moved here to retire so I haven't had any luck yet with anyone who knows him. Experience is everything at the moment.
As far as the rifle goes, something about the size of an M1 carbine would be about the right size. I was also hoping for a double stack magazine.
