Remington 700 VTR .223
Can anyone shed any experience with this rifle? Performance, trigger, accuracy, etc. I'm looking for a varmit rifle and like this one. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have had experience with 2 different VTR's in .308. Both were extremely accurate. Both owned by experienced shooters. Both very impressed. Both guns shot .5 inch groups at 100 yards. The way I have been told is that some have externally adjustable triggers and some have internal adjustable triggers. The two 6 month old rifles I have seen, both had external. There are currently 7 or 8 different models (calibers), not counting the Desert Recon models. The best place to see all the different ones is at Cabela's. Also be sure to look at the new .308 VTR with the "5R" barrel. This gun should shoot sub .5" groups or less. I saw one in .308 at about $25 over the regular barrel model. And yes, the VSF is another very nice choice but not as fun to carry. 0 -
if you want an extremely accurate rifle, there are several to select from these days. Savage, Remington, Tikka, and Browning are but a few. If you don't mind a single shot the Remington XR-100 is a truly amazing piece...if you can find one.

I have a Remington VTR in .223 and with a millet scope and shooting 40 gr nosler ballistic tips bullets with timney 2 lbs trigger I average 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards shooting on sand bags. I like it [:D]
