Mini 30 question

I thought the Mini 30 was a .308 barrel...I have shot both .308 bullets and surplus 7.92x39 with a .311 bullet. The .311 are more accurate. How is that possible?

  Slug the bore with a .320 soft lead ball, the kind the black powder shooters use. To see what the actual groove diameter is.

  I would dare say Ruger erred on the safe side and used the .310 bore diameter. There is rumors though, that they used a tapered bore on those, which would have to be hammer forged, to my thinking. I have heard many different theories, and slugging the bore would only yield its minimum dimensions, if the tapered bore theory is true.

  When they were first introduced I remember reading a magazine article about this issue. At the time, Ruger was solving it by using a tapered bore - not sure if they still are or not.

  The origianl 7.62x39 bullets were .310. Here is some good information on the round and I think you will find you answer here.
