1893 Marlin Takedown

Hello,

I have a 1893 Marlin takedown and would like to know how to tighten up the takedown part of the rifle. The takedown lever doesn't stay in place when handling the rifle, which make a little slop when handling.

    See if you can locate someone with a set of Brownells "Gunsmithing
    Kinks". Might be something in there. Mine is very tight but appears
    that there is a slight "arc" in the locking wedge which I imagine is what keeps the play out of it. Best of luck.

    I have one but mine is tight however the take down lever is a weak point in them. As stated, mine is tight but have seen many that would fall open every time the rifle was turned on it's side. You will find many take down models with the take down lever spot welded closed due to that reason. I know there has to be a way to fix it, how though I do not know. One man that works on a lot of lever guns, if still around, is a man in Maine named Bob Knapp. You might contact him and see if he knows how to fix it or who would know how. BertH should have Bob's contact info (I would have to hunt through my file cabinet for it in the shop) so PM BertH and ask him if Mr. Knapp is still around working on lever guns. Another outfit to contact is Doug Turnball. IF you do find out how or know of someone who does fix them, please post the info being I have passed on buying many that the take down lever was either too loose or spot welded shut.

    I have sent an e-mail to the below gunsmith asking if they might do that kind of work on Marlin 1893 take downs. IF they do, I will be using them due to knowing of a few 1893s I can buy that needs the work done to them. I will post what they reply to me, I would have called BUT 3 hour time difference so they are not open yet and when they will be I will be where I cannot call.
