Help me save my great grandfathers model 12

Can you estimate what its worth?
Tell me any information about the gun?
My dad thinks it is Pidgeon Grade. How can I tell?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. My aunts want to sell it and dad wants to be prepaired (price wise) when they offer it to him. We dont want to lose this gun! Its been in my family for 3 generations. Hopefully it will be my sons one day.

    Hello Hurley Thanks for posting here I went to the other sight and The information you Got From Pauline Muerrie Tells it all . Do what ever it takes to get this Shotgun. IMHO a second mortgage would not be out of the question. I don't want to pry But do these aunts know how to find out the value? I hope not . Needless to say you dont want them looking at this or the other site in your post. are you going to be able to match any offer or is this going to be a closed bid ? I wish you Luck I would love to have that shotgun But because you and your day would keep it in the family. I for one would not Bid against you even if it was only the 2 of us and you bid $1.00. Damn That is a NICE gun . Please let us know if you get it that is what dreams are made of.

    If Pauline authenticates it as original
    (That is about the best engraving provenance you Will get for a model 12), value IMO will go 12-15k conservativly for an original 2 barrel ulrich engraved gun. I will ad that the economy is not great right now, but I as a collector would pay that to add to my collection,and there are collectors out there with way deeper pockets than mine.

    Wow is about all I can add. I would have her put it in writing and put it with the gun in a good safe, its Better than gold.

    Since your dad already owns 1/4 of the gun, if I were him I would do whatever I had to to keep it in the family. IMHO he should pay a fair price but should not have to pay a premium to keep it in the family. Any other assets in the estate that could be traded around with his sisters so he could keep the gun without puting himself in a finacncial bind?

    Pauline is a great lady! She recommended that I speak to a friend of hers who is an avid Model 12 collector. After about twenty minutes we had a ballpark figure of anywhere from 7-12k for the gun. Could be more if it is all original (dad says it is). For that price IT WILL STAY IN THE FAMILY. Ive seen similar guns on gunbroker for almost 20k which would be too much. Its a sad fact that my aunts would rather sell a pricless family heirloom. My dad says they have no idea how much the gun is worth, and its been almost 2 months since the gun was in their possesion and they have done nothing with it. Ill let you know how it all pans out. Thank you for your advice and honest opinions! I never really thought that much about the guns my dad has from his father until now. He wishes he would have said something to my grandmother before her death (I think she knew it would cause problems.) I really have a greater appreciation for the history that these great firearms carry. Thank you for all your help!

    From my personal experience get your hands on it as soon as you can, even if you have to barrow the money. Many times these family things go bad because of animosity between the different family members, i.e. the ones who have actual physical custody will sell the firearm(s) for far less money then their actually worth just in spite to prevent the other family member who wants it from having it. I'm not saying this is going to happen, but if you want the shotgun get it in your possession as quickly as you can, before your aunts can back out of the deal. My 2?.
