Winchester 94 info

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some info on a Wichester model 94.
I was told you tell the year by the serial number. If the is possible, this one starts with 4,7XX,XXX.
The safety is holding the lever up tight to the butt stock in order to shoot it. There is no checkering and the butt stock goes straight back (no pistol grip)
I am not familiar with these guns at all, as I am sure you can tell. I also have no way upload any pics.
Any info would be great, thanks...

    Sir with the serial number you give the range could be 99,999 This could rage over a LARGE number of years . I need to tell you that the serial number needs all digits.If you think someone will some how report your serial number as their rifle and you stole it then put an X in place of the last digit. I suspect yours is somewhere in the 1978 time frame + or - 5 years. Also look at the top fey Post on the top of this Forum labeled STICKY see the one on 1894 Winchesters.

    I tried the website, and was unable to find where to locate the approx. age of the rifle.
    Perry Shooter, thank you for you post. I added the serial number to see how close you were.

    1979 according to the data I have so Perry Shooter could be right as this data is not real accurate.

    You can call Winchester at (800)945-5237 and they'll tell you when it was manufactured.
