    The stocks are "K frame square butt diamond magna" stocks.

    They were used from about 1970 to the early 1990's.

    EDIT: EXCUSE ME! My post was not entirely accurate. Upon reading the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition, section I pages 22 & 23,rather than trying to rely on memory, I am more confused than ever.

    The pictures appear to show a stainless (bright) stock circle washer.
    The stock circle washer was stamped blued steel from 1946 to 1970 at which time they changed to stainless (a machined washer was used prior to 1946)

    The top forward (horn) portion of the grip is rounded which indicates post 1952 production. The diamond area around the screw escutcheon was eliminated in approx. 1968.

    SO - - reading the serial number as 376162, the stocks shown would be correct for either a 'C' prefix gun of 1954-1956 or a 'K' prefix gun made in 1959.

    The fact the stocks shown are "magna" style (actually covering the frame in the web of the thumb area for extra area to absorb recoil)rules out the use on 'J' frame guns.

    Your stocks are off a S&W M&P. The numbers inside the right stock are the serial number of the M&P they came off of.
    Mu M&P made in 1945 have the same ones.

    "They were used from about 1970 to the early 1990's".............not hardly, they are earlier (late 1930's-1960's) they 'probalbly' are 'k' frame but could also be 'j' frame (hard to tell without measuring or compairing them)

    They have the imprint of the round butt revolver.
    If you are sure they are K frame size they will fit 38 round butt Hand Ejector or the round butt Model 19
    My round butt Model 37 J-Frame Chief came with Magna style grips.
    S&W also sold grips to give round butt grips a square butt configuration. They were and still may be available to square off round butt Chiefs.

    My first impression was J frame also, but I don't think that's correct. My "round to square" J frame factory grips have a ridge running along the bottom grip's backstrap that encloses the rounding butt and presents a square profile. These appear to be made as to show the gun's backstrap - maybe the "outline" profile is not of the outside contour of the grip but instead the inside?

    LOL, wow, reading some of the responses...

    They are diamond magna PC's (plain clothes) for a square butt K frame. The term "PC" is from the slight curving up of the wood at the bottom center of the grips.
    They were used from 1952 to ~1967.

    Those grips will fit any K frame square butt, and most likely "L" frames too. What it came off from is another story, but a M&P 10, K-22, or K-38, wouldn't be far fetched either.

    These are apparently what are called, "Your brothers grips." Meaning, just put em back for me, I'll be over to get them soon, don't make me tell mom!

    When you got those, I thought they had a screw. I might have to bid on those, those would look nice on dads old pencil barrel 10.
