I had a .38 2" (bought new a number of years ago) that started misfiring roughly 1/3 or so double action pulls, after probably >200rds had been fired through it (at least 50 were +P). Single action was fine.
I never wanted to mess with sending it back to Taurus, and finally spent $40 getting it fixed at a local gunsmith's. "Fixed" amounted to a stiffer spring (he claimed what was in there wasn't right), which was really a less than ideal solution. Still fine for me, not so much for my wife anymore.
No other complaints about it, as it feels great and seems reasonably accurate. Looks nice too.
Surprisingly, the new Ruger Mk III (22/45) I picked up last year fails to fully eject the empty case about 1/10 shots. Quite frustrating. I fully would've expected that gun to function absolutely reliably, as has my 10/22 for many years.

Question........ The misfires when shooting DA. Was there any sign of firing pin impact on the primers or were they off center? I had a tracker in which, when fired double action the cylinder stop would hang up and fail to engage allowing the cylinder to over rotate. It worked fine single action but rapid fire it would misalighn every other shot. it was sent to Taurus and came back supposedly fixed (before I figured out the actual problem). I disassembled and polished all interior parts and it never happened again. My second taurus had a problem similarily because of rough parts. polishing alos fixed that one. I now consider Taurus guns a "diamond in the rough" with the knowledge I will have to "polishing" any that come into my posession. FYI the second one I owned had burrs on the mainspring center pin causing it to hang up and cause lite strikes.I was able to actually lighten the spring once I got it polished. 0 -
IMO, with revolvers in particular, its not too much to ask that brand new ones should function fine right out of the box without requring disassembly and gunsmithing. 0 -
in ref: to the ruger mk3 hanging up... it is the loaded chamber indicator. customer bought one from me, it had the same problem or moreso. i told him i could remedy the problem. took the barrel off, ground the part of the indicator that touches the shell casing all the way off . damn thing works like my four mk 2's perfect. 0 -
I wondered about that loaded chamber indicator on the Mk III; it sticks out in there pretty far. Works great when you're wondering if it fed right and put one in [:)]. Of course, you shouldn't have to wonder that though. I'll look at that. Thanks for the tip.
It's been a few years since I shot the Taurus malfunctioning on DA, but I think it was hitting the primers (wouldn't swear to it though); it didn't seem to be bringing the hammer back far enough before release.
I agree you shouldn't have to work on new stuff. That's why I never buy the extra warranties. I'm starting to question my policy on that though...0
