Savage 24 .22/.410
Is there any hope to fix the trigger on a mod 24 .22/.410? It has an unbelievable stiff trigger pull. Thanks, Casey

It can be done by a gunsmith familiar with the model 24. I've done a few with good results. Some of them came from the factory with terribly hard trigger pulls. 0 -
You need someone to take some metal off the sear or lessen spring tension, problem is too much and it becomes unsafe, better left to experienced individual. One thing you can do, is find and install a trigger shoe. A trigger shoe gives you a greater surface area to apply pressure and will give you the feel of less pull poundage. Shoes are made for pistols and come in various sizes of curve radius and thickness, find one that fits inside your trigger guard. The shoe is attached by two set screws from the side. Another home remedy is to slip a piece of shrink tubing over the trigger, then another and another till you build up the trigger surface. Careful nothing extends out from the side of the trigger guard cause it could catch your clothing and release...with a hammer gun not such a concern. 0 -
Yes, I know about the trigger shoe, but haven't tried one yet. And I tried asking my more saavy gun friends whether it was fixable by a gunsmith. They claim no after talking to their gunsmith. I guess if they shave off the sear, it may not stay cocked..?? I'm not a gunsmith and really not familiar with how a trigger is engineered, but it seems like there ought to be a middle ground somewhere..? It's not an expensive gun and don't know if there's even an after-market trigger available..? Thanks to both of you for your input, Casey 0 -
With a hammer gun, unloaded or broke open hold the hammer back and pull the trigger. That pressure will be the trigger return spring. Too heavy then that spring needs attention. Next cock the hammer and pull the trigger now you feel the sear let off resistance. Like a latch with the trigger holding back the hammer spring. That is adjustable by polishing or filing but left to an experienced smith cause when you take away metal you can not return it. 0 -

most gunsmiths do not care to do trigger jobs on this type of gun. they may have to be disassembled four or five times to check results of trigger pull adjustments. this is very time consuming and labor charges can quickly exceed the value of the gun. 0 -

I bought one a few years ago and got it cheap because it was hard to breach open and the trigger was terrible.I took it apart to give it a good cleaning and there was a spent case from a 22 short mashed in the action.Looks like some one shot a short in it and and unknowingly dropped the case in the action.That completely fixed the breaching problem and greatly improved the trigger. 0
