BSA rifle age
We are looking for a complete bolt to this rifle. Its a 7x57 sn#532741 Trying to find out the year it was made
(memory says pre75) we've tried all the favorites still looking.

I think the rifle is of a vintage that is the same as a Herters U9 might want to look for that part online also. 0 -

One of the great fallacies regarding firearms identifications is that all we need is a serial number and some commercial name.
Unfortunately, this is rarely true. For many firearms, there isn't some huge book of numbers and names which will yield all the history and information that gets requested.
So the responsibility for information needed or requested falls on the shoulders of the requester. In this instance, BSA was a primary manufacturer of many types of firearms but is also known for selling imported firearms that were private labeled for them.
Photographs and the overall (both side) and details of the actions and any marks or stamps. Some stamps can be found under the wood line on the bottom of the barrels or the action. Details will often give more information than anything else.

I beleive Karl is right, it should be a Herters U9.

I have a BSA 22 Hornet bolt action. It was made in 1954. The action is clearly marked along with British proof marks. There is a great deal of info on these actions in the Frank de Haas book "Bolt action rifles". There was a short action and a long action available. Many variatioons of these actions evolved over many years including the "Royal" "Hunter" Majestic U9 and others. 0
