trigger guard conundrum

    SKS carbines use fixed magazines.

While you can "dump" them to empty the contents, the magazines are not supposed to be removable without disassembly.

Edit: OK, sorry, now I get it.

SKS mechanisms are fairly simple; I find it hard to believe the gun was manufactured so far out of spec that the mag catch doesn't function.

Nmyers may be right that you have interference with a badly fitted aftermarket stock. Other possibilities are that the gun was simply abused, or incorrectly re-assembled.

Pictures might help. If you want to know how to post them, you can see the "sticky" at the top of the "Ask the Experts" thread.

You are absolutely correct however the feature I was attempting to describe rendered the "dump function" inoperable. I shouldnt have described it as a mag release. I suppose it would be better compared to the "floor plate" release on a bolt action rifle. At any rate the construction of the trigger guard prevents that spring loaded catch from engaging with the magazine.

Maybe you want to post photos for us.

It sounds to me like the rifle may have a replacement stock that requires fitting.
