Fal Bolt Carriers??
What exactly are the differences between a standard fal bolt carrier and a para bolt carrier, besides the sand cuts? Can I take a standard sand cut bolt carrier and just take the rat tail off, or is it different all together? Does any one have a para bolt/carrier w/ sand cuts they are looking to sell?
I am new to the fal community and i appreciate all the help from everyone!!

Two totally different animals.
Sand cuts have nothing to do with the difference.
The para carrier holds the recoil springs. If you just removed the rat-tail, you would be able to assemble it, but would have no way to close the bolt. DSA has a good selection of para parts listed:

A good machinist might be able to modify a carrier for you by boring a hole in the back for your recoil springs, I haven't heard of it being done though.0 -
Thank you for your explanation. That was a huge help. So I need the para carrier, are the bolts the same or is there actually a different bolt as well? 0 -
Bolts generally interchangeable, no differentiation for a para/fixed bolt.
There are minor differences in inch VS metric bolts, but one will run in the others place.0 -
Once again, thank you for your help. Is there any insight you can offer me as to where i may locate a bolt. i know i can find standard bolt/ carrier combos on dsa and several other websights, and DSA has the para carriers as well as on Falcon Arms, but Im having trouble finding just the bolt to go with just the para carrier and i guess im not really trying to be stuck with the standard carrier. I guess if it comes down to it, I can always just sell it on here or the auction side or save it for another build later on and try and find a bolt later for that one. 0 -
What parts do you already have? You might be best off to buy a complete parts kit and sell off what you don't need.
The best way to get your Para stuff would be as a kit from DSA or Falcon, they will help with your 922R compliance count as they are US made.0 -
i have the complete front end, a stripped upper receiver, and a complete bolt with no carrier. Haha i guess i still have a ways to go. 0
