winchester 73

This '73 was part of a trade some years ago and I am curious about the "filler" that is in place of the original rear site. I requested a letter in 1993 that stated the rifle was 44 cal, 26" octagon barrel, plane trigger, received in the warehouse 9/23/1899, shipped from the warehouse on 9/30/1899, and one other arm in the order. The cleaning rod is missing as is a part of the tang site. The barrel is marked 44 WCF and the elevator is marked 44 CAL. I would be interested in your opinion of condition and possible value. Thanks

    The rifle is mostly complete but would need rear sight , left toggle link, new screws, the wood is pretty bad so would need stocks. There is no finish left on the gun. I think maybe the victom on a wire brush. I do not need or want it to look new, just put back to useable condition, tightened up and with hopefully an aged looking finish.

    Yep, call Roger. He will restore your Winchester so it looks original.

    Questions. If an old Winchester has a value of $500/$600 and is restored what does that do to the value? Also is this question considered high jacking this post?

    Properly Restored guns do increse the value weather or not the purists like it. Much depends on the gun of course. If you find an 86 Winchester in the right cal. origionally delux with say special order options in 10% condition and send it to Turnbull or someone similar who restores it to 100% you will get your 4,000.00 restoration costs returned several times over.
