THE 7.93 IS ACTUAL GROVE bore (oops) DIA. NOT 'CALIBER', AND YES IT IS STANDARD 8X57MM

    Triumph13,

Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums! And congratulations on your purchase.

The 7.9/7.92/7.93 is the dimension of the BORE diameter which was a standard for the Mauser company. The Groove diameter is stamped as being 8.2 with both of these being in millimeters.

    One millimeter = 0.03937" roughly.

Often, because of various distractions about bore/groove relationships in Mauser rifles, it's a fun experiment to actually 'slug' the barrel with soft lead and measure the two dimensions for your records.

This is a fairly good discussion on the Mauser ammunition:

    Best.
