My new AK
Ok so i traded some stuff for this Romanian AK. Its a SAR1 imported by CAI. Its painted dark earth with black tapco furniture.
So is the SAR1 model better than the WASR10 model?

The Sar-1 has a dimpled receiver that the Wasr-10 is missing.
Certain variations or the Wasr-10 have a threaded muzzle and bayonet lug.
If your happy with what you got, enjoy it. I'd recommend you buy some steel communist made magazines.
If you want more good quality Polymer Magazines, check out the Bulgarian mags sold by www.k-var.com
Otherwise, www.copesdistributing.net usually has deals on Steel AK mags.
EDIT: I don't believe Tapco Mags are metal lined. Check out a Bulgarian Polymer Waffle Mag or a Polish Polymer smooth sided mag, both have metal lining in the feed lip area. This metal lining makes the magazine altogether more sturdy and reliable.
I believe www.aimsurplus.com and copes mentioned above sell eastern block poly mags.
I believe Aim also has 20rd Hungarian magazines. Those are real nice for shooting at a bench at the range.
I personally don't care for the AR stock either but if you like it enjoy it. Down the line you could either buy a Romanian wire folding stock (Copes usually has some for sale) or some black poly stocks from

I'd recommend you buy a front sight tool. I have one like the below. With the addition of a small pc of pipe it makes it really handy to adjust windage and elevation on the ak.

Very nice, and I agree with Drobs on steel communist mags, I like the ribbed east german mags, but the newer-to-the-market Korean box mags will do in a pinch..
When you buy mags, try each one in your rifle, I have found that the back tabs vary in thickness and some need a little file work to get them to fit just right..
If you want a drum that will always work, Chinese or bulagarian "circle 10" 75 round hing backed drums are the ones to get.
Drums are noisey though, as the rounds inside them move back in forth dinging on the rear cover. Best way I have learned to keep them quiet is to keep the gun muzzle down when ones in the gun, and dont let it bounce. Walk softly.[:D]

I like the color scheme, though I've never really seen the point of AR-like telescoping stocks on AK rifles.
An AK will let you put on a true side folding stock, which IMO is much more useful than tubular telescoping stocks you're stuck with because of the AR buffer design.
But don't mind me. . .these things are purely a question of personal preference. If you like it, and it does what you need it to do, that's all that matters.
On Tapco mags, if you have one, you can try it yourself and if it runs reliably, it should be fine.
That said, I'd agree that the steel eastern Commie-bloc mags are probably the best (though heavy). I've also heard that the newer Bulgarian plastic mags are excellent too.0
