iver johnson arms and cycle work serial number

i have a 12 gauge iver johnson it has no serial #. the only number it has is ripx can anyone translate year for me

  8290 ASSUMING THE 'P' IN YOUR POST IS REALY A 'G', THE SYSTEM THEY USED WAS 'FITCHBURGX' (1234567890)

  generally speaking the serial number with all letters were some of the last manufactured between 1940 (or so) and 1956. there has been no verification on the serial numbers for the last production run of 1971 to 1976.
