Egyptian Maadi's PLEASE EDUCATE ME
I have looked through old forums as well as all over the internet. I have learned a lot. However, I have an opportunity to buy 2 different Maadis. Should I buy them or look for a Norinco or other. I have heard the horrors of the 10 and 90 series but the SA seemed to be ok. The first one is a Maadi MISR SA, original owner. No mods to gun,has receiver cover for scope also. Excellent cond.also has numbers matching Russian SKS 1955 with synthetic stock, 4X scope, bayonet, bipod, not refurbished.He no longer has original stock. He said he bought new in 1994 and bought the more expensive one they offered.Gun is in excellent cond. He has 400 rounds of Russian 7.62X39 to go with the deal. $700 for everything.
Second opportunity is a Maadi at a local gunshop. It is an arm imported through Pars International. Appears to be in good cond. Has the forward pistol grip I assume an add on. He's asking 500.
I have read all about the Century Arms poorly assembled weapons and I am wondering if I should stay clear of the Century Maadi. I appreciate any input about the 2 deals listed above and the Maadi folklore surrounding this variation of the ak 47. Thanks again. Ted

I won't play games; Century had some very nasty looking Egyptian AKs, but they also imported some very good ones. The Pars rifles were all imported much earlier on and do have a higher level of fit and finish as well as showing the Maadi acceptance stamping:

I am not there to look at the rifles and since we have no photos it is nearly impossible to tell you which way to lean when it comes time to pick a rifle. The fact that there is a package deal with the Century Gun involving an SKS and a large amount of ammo makes a straight on rifle to rifle comparison impossible. If the Century rifles looks good then it probably is a good one. If it looks like it was assembled with a file and a screw driver (and some of them don't even look that good) then pass it up.0 -
Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate that. I have no photos of the guns. I guess it boils down to fit and finish. I appreciate the pictures also. I guess the sks and the Maadi and ammo for 700 is a good deal as long as the rifles aren't basket cases? 0 -

For the most part they are the same rifles with just a few changes like the thumbhole stock, totally removing all traces of the bayonet lug and perhaps eliminating the threads on the muzzle or simply welding the slant break into place. There is no rhyme or reason to any of these changes, I've seen all types and some rifles still have threaded muzzles and enough of a bayonet lug remaining to hang the blade on the rifle. The wood quality can range from pretty nice looking all the way down to stuff that looks like compressed cardboard and will wobble around and rattle no matter how tightly you torque down the screws. Like all Kalashnikov; they will all shoot (at least most of the time) but the quality varies so widely among importers, or even during the time period of importation from the same firm, that it is tough to simply say "All of these rifles are good and all of these rifles are bad".0
