German 6.5 mm
I am looking at an auction add, and they list a "Krupp Essen rifle"
In another photo it's called a "6.5mm Crupp GPB Guss Stahl bolt action"
It has an octagon barrel, double set trigger,a flat bolt, box magazine, and a checkered sporter stock, with a round pistol grip and schnavel (sp)forend.
Does this sound familier to anyone? I can't find anything about it. What is it? and of course, are they worth anything?

Krupp Essen Fluss Stahl is a standard German commercial barrel marking, it identifies the maker of the steel used in the barrel, "Krupp Essen", and the type of steel used, "Fluss Stahl".
Your description of the rifle makes it sound like a high quality German sporter. Without quality photos of the rifle we have no way of positively identifying it, or putting a value on it.0 -

For Ruff and 5MM, sorry I don't have pics or a listing. I found this in an augtioneers web sight, with just two dark photo's I'm at the mercy of the auctioneers discription. I may have to drive 85 miles next weekend just to see it in person, thanks for the input. 0 -

It's too bad that this rifle will be 85 miles away, but it sounds like it could be worth the trip. Hard to say when the auctioneer prints poor quality pictures and expects folks to be interested...

This particular rifle was from the Peterlongo shop, Innsbruch, Austria.
Be aware though that there is a huge range of quality, fit and finish from German/Austrian gunsmiths. Not all were the masters we would like to believe they were.
I list well over a dozen 6.5mm cartridges that this rifle could have for a chamber so pay close attention to the markings if you go to the auction. If the cartridge designation isn't plainly stamped on the outside of the barrel that is visible then it will be under the stockline on the bottom. Take a magnifying glass or strong 'cheaters' to be able to discern some of the stamps and engraving.

Well the plot thickins, I talked with the auctioneer and it turns out this rifle is an 8mm mauser. I would have to guess it is a commercial rifle, with an octagon barrel and set triggers, but it does have a visable box magazine, similer to a military mauser I saw today.
I have to go there tommorrow, a they said I can take a look and submit an absentee bid.
