I have one of these rifles and noticed some for sale on gunbroker. All the ones I've seen listed have the checkered stock but mine does not. I was wondering what year the change was made or was it always an option? What difference does it make in its value? I'm not interested in selling but just curious. I like having rifles and pistols that shoot the same round.

  It's hard to tell what year Marlin went to checkered stocks on them. My 9mm and 45 both have plain stocks. Later ones have checkered and some real late ones have a fiber-optic front sight.
