Ruger 10/22 continuation
Be careful useing stingers in the 10-22. They are a little longer than 22lr and I think in the manual it says don't use them.

Never had any trouble with Stingers in my 10/22, but then I don't have a lot of use for Stingers anyway and have fired perhaps 100 rounds through my rifle in the past 20 years. 0 -
Depends on what chamber your barrel has. A sporter chamber is loose enough that the longer stinger case isn't an issue, but a Bentz, match, or win51 (IIRC) will not allow it to be extracted without firing it.
IOW, if you have an aftermarket barrel on your 10/22 don't use stingers.0 -
My 10/22 that I have tried them in all will work fine. However, hardly ANY of mine (7 or so) will shoot uncoated lead bullets. They will shoot ammo like Remington Thunderbolts or Cyclones where they have a wax coating, they will also shoot copper bullets, but I can't hardly make it through a magazine full of ammo with the uncoated lead type. It has always been that way... 0 -
I had a problem with stingers in my 10-22 also, they would not eject after shot. I like (or the rifle, likes the Federal 40 grain solids lead rounds. My wife`s 10-22 also is starting to like them. Her barrel is not quit broke in just yet. Mind is just now broke in and will hammer in a nice little tight group at 30 yrads(for now) with a stock barrel. [^] 0 -
The Ruger manual says not to use Stingers in your 10/22, though I think that despite that warning they will still function fine in many STOCK 10/22s.
They will jam up in 10/22s with aftermarket barrels, since almost all of those use tighter match chambers for increased accuracy, and these chambers don't like the longer Stinger cases.

A. We chamber our 10/22 drop-in barrels with a Bentz semi-auto match type reamer. This type chamber is shorter and tighter than a standard sporting type chamber. As a result higher pressures are developed when the longer Stinger and Velocitor type ammo is fired in a shorter match type chamber. The end result can be a blown extractor slot in a 10/22 barrel with a match chamber. The following is from CCI:
"Where the problem resides is that the Stinger case is 0.100" longer than a Long Rifle case, their chamber is not made to ANSI Sporting Chamber dimensions, it's shorter, the Stinger case is then engraved by the rifling and increases pressure. See the Warning on the back of the Stinger packaging, ensure you know which chamber your rifle has. If not an ANSI Sporting Chamber, do not use Stinger."

Personally, I think Stingers are overrated anyway. They're not super accurate and if you're going to the trouble of putting in a match barrel, presumably you want accuracy. Ordinary target ammo is usually more accurate, and I think there are other good choices for hunting (eg the CCI velocitor, various subsonics, etc).
Personally, I've also always had good reliability with the ordinary velocity Federal target solid 40 grain lead .22s in my gun, though I am pretty sure these ARE wax-coated bullets.
Note that most .22 ammo is either plated or wax coated, because uncoated pure lead will oxidize on long exposure to air. Wax prevents this and decreases bore friction. Copper plating also helps prevent leading with high-velocity ammo.

I tend to agree that stingers are over rated. The stingers are not very accurate in my 10-22, or any other .22 rifle I own. That is interesting, I did not know that they had a longer case. It is good to know that other barrel makers do not say you can use them in their barrels, I am going to rebarrel my 10-22 soon. 0
