Smith and Wesson 32 long ct
Earlier today I happened to come across this old Smith and Wesson. It has been refinished( I think, Maybe not). I really am having a hard time trying to figure out what exactly it is. Any thoughts?

Looks like a SW "Regulation Police". Made from 1917 on. Its a a type of SW hand ejector. Bob 0 -
It's a 1903, 32Long Hand Ejector that has been replated.
I believe it's the round butt Hand Ejector in square butt grips.
It was reintroduced in 1949 in the older, I-Frame size with round butt and still called the 32 Hand Ejector. In about 1957 the Model 30 was S&W's new designation for the Hand Ejector.
The square butt Hand Ejector was known as the Regulation Police since before WW2 and became the Model 31.
Your serial number isn't that much later than at the end of the first, 3rd model HE model run which ended in 1942.
Both 32 Hand Ejector and Regulation Police had ramp front sights at least as early as 1958. They also had the later S&W flat cylinder catches.
Yours has both early front sight and cylinder catch.
Only if the frame under the grips is square, it's the Regulation Police.0 -
Actually, it's a S&W .32 Regulation Police (pre war).
Serial numbers ran from ~260000 in 1917 to 536684 in 1942.
