Remington Spartan 100

I have been offered a Remington Spartan 100 twelve gauge at a very good price. I am unfamiliar with the Spartan and would like some input as to their quality.

    found some info on this shotgun but nothing current.
    i got to try one today at the range for trap and i did better with this $165 single shot 20ga then my ruger red label 12,

    then i checked and saw it had the full choke in it, WTH. did notice it was hitting the clays hard.

    didn't get to try it with the mod, or improved cyl.....YET.....but i will next week as i bought the little gun.

    info i found most talked bad about fit and finish, this one look really nice wood is beautiful fit is nice , not sure if they were bad when first brought over but i like this one enough to buy it before checking out the thing on the net..WTH.

    anyone else have an opinion on the gun, yes, no, maybe, pass, junk.
    not that it matters much now with it setting over there by the door.

    also not many listed on the auction side, so either there all broken or people that bought them are keeping them.

    crazy thing is i have been trying out a lot of different guns to find that one i do best with, started with a cz O/U, ruger o/u, stoeger sxs, and now this single shot. strange thing is before this gun my best for me was my old mod 51 and my 311 sxs 410 of all things.

    $125.00 with all four chokes. It was used last fall for breaking a few clays. Only about six boxes of shells through it.

    I agree that $65.00 on the auction side is a very attractive price but if you add on shipping and FFL transfer fee it is not that much less than I can have the gun delivered to my door. Buying it locally I can inspect it before purchase and get a chance to try it out. What I would like to know what others opinions are about it.

    Well i have a Remington Spartan and its not a good gun for competition shooting. The Spartan is more of a field gun but if you are willling to spend the money you could get a nice set of choke tubes and try that out.

    Are you suggesting a different set of choke tubes than the ones that come with the gun? If you are what would you recommend

    yeah i would recomened that but to tell ye the truth if your gonna get into competiton shooting like what iam in you would want a different gun but if its just for fun you can use that gun but for choke tubes you can get custom made ones if you are willing to spend the mone such as i have Seminole choke tubes which are a very very good brand for competitions. They are a little pricy for just 4 tubes is $800 for my gun which is a Caesar Guerini but it may vary for different guns and what kind of tubes. So i dont know what your willing to do but i would check out Seminole choke tubes.

    I have no plans to shoot in competition just bought the gun to screw around and break a few clays here at home. I have tried it out and agree that it isn't a gun for the serious competition shooter. I am not sorry that I picked it up but in all truth I needed it like I need another hole in my head. Just an old gun nut that can't pass up a bargain.

    the 'spartans' are build like a tank (a russian tank that is) no frills but they do shoot, and for a buck and a quarter you got a good buy.

    There are shotgun gunsmiths that mess around with backboring and altering existing barrels & chokes to make them shoot well.
