Uberti Cattleman Question
I have a Uberti Iver Johnson Cattleman pistol. Im guessing this is a reproduction of an original. With the hammer down, if I pull it back about 1/8 inch, it will stay there. Is this a safety making it capable of being safely carried with 6 rounds? Thanks.

The old "4 click" reveolver. I had one about 6 months ago. I would not put a round under the hammer with it one click up as I don't think that was what it wad made for. Two clicks let you turn the cylinder if I remember correcly. Just leave the hammer down OR just carry it with five rounds,,,imo..nambu 0 -
On SAA's and exact copies, the first hammer notch is in fact the 'safety' notch, but they are ineffective. A hammer left in this position can have its safety notch sheared off by a moderate blow, and it can then fire a round that is under the hammer.
Leaving the hammer all the way down on a live round is even more dangerous. In a demonstration, I once rested the hammer on a live cartridge, and then tapped the hammer spur with a small stick. The gun fired.
The safest way is to carry the gun with the hammer down and resting on an empty chamber.0
