Model 27-2

I recently bought a 27-2 S&W. It has a bobbed hammer and I would like to put an original one back on. I have heard that they mostly had target triggers and hammers (.500" wide). I was wondering if this is correct or if they were thinner than this?
Any info that will point me in the right direction would be appreciated!

    Hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.

    As far as I know, the majority of the N-framed revolver's that had model numbers wore target appointments...target trigger, and target hammer. That applies to all calibers. The exception were some that werre made for service applications like the Model 28 Highway Patrolman, and the Model 58, which is a fixed sight 41 magnum.

    There were a number of changes in both hammers & triggers over the years. Without the serial number, we can't help you.

    I wouldn't bet my life on the hammers listed here being correct to the model variation, but I guess I'd bet postage:

    Serial number would help of course - save time & postage. [;)]

    If you are comfortable being able to knock out the DA sear pin and using your current parts you can get the stripped hammer, I suppose for the few $$$ more I'd get one complete. I don't know that I'd buy used because you don't know the condition regarding the SA sear.

    If the part is correct (I think the 27-3 dropped pinned barrel & recessed chambers only) you may very well still have to do some fitting for correct timing, ensure the cylinder bolt cams properly.

    The S&W 27-2 was produced from 1961 to 1982.

    The M27-2 had a grooved .265 service trigger (1948 to 1975), .500 grooved trigger (1975 to 1980), & .400 grooved trigger (1981 & 1982)

    The M27-2 hammer was .400 semi-target (1948 to 1975) & .500 target hammer (1975 on)

    S prefix serial# guns are pre 1970 & N prefix serial#'s are post 1970.

    If you post the serial # range (including all letters pre & post that appear on the bottom of the grip frame) we will be able to pin down your gun's manuf. date within a year.
