I believe w.a.523 is a Nazi proof mark. The 5450 with the b below it is the way the Germans serial numbered their military firearms. I would say you have a military rifle that has been sporterized. The numbers 6259 and 4779 could be the serial numbers of rifles that part of your rifle came from. Of course that is just speculation without seeing pictures. The sporterized model 98 Mausers could be anything from the work of a master gunsmith to the product of a hobiest. The .30'06 barrel and checkered stock suggests to me that it is the work of a good gunsmith.

WaA623 would peg to Waffenwerke Steyr in German-occupied Austria. Per above, sounds as tho you're in posession of a sporterized/mixmaster WW2 German K98k that was rebarrelled to '06. 5405b is correctly pegged as the original serial number, & unfortunately the front scope mount/base has covered the receiver ring area where you would find impression stamps reading "bnz" or else "660", along with the year date of manufacture. Value would be fair market/minimal, so enjoy it for what she is. It's likely a good shooter.
