Get on google or Bing and type in gunstock maker. That will bring up a number of choices. You will have to do a little work checking them to find what you want.

Thanks, rhmc24! Will try search engines but all I've traced down there so far are the custom stockers without the duplicator equipment which obviously lowers the end cost.

Dokey, do you know if Mr. Compton uses, or has, one of the duplicators? Or, just know of his good stock work?

Thanks for all the help, gang! I've got emails out to the likely suspects. Have had two offers of original No. 4 butts to use as patterns. My 'smith friend has said he may be able to clean up and restore the buggered-up top tang to keep it original as possible.

he has one of the No. 4 S Military.

Any and all leads for original parts, restorers, etc. are still needed. I'll try to keep updating the info on how this project moves along.

Offbeat, somewhat: Get with an advertised 'furniture restorer'. They did my Mom's beautiful dining room table W/A repair inlay directly into the tabletop. I can't see it!

They may be able to 'debride' the tang area, and build-up a new channel for you.

Also, FYI, I send my stocks for stripping over to the furniture stripper. Stocks are hung on a wire, and immersed into a vat. They come out completely bare, and dry..almost like a new bare piece of fitted, shaped wood! Best, Joe

Thanks for that input, givette. I'm so used to NOT finding any kind of services in this area that it completely escaped me to think about having my old stocks stripped like that. Got a couple around that could use it. I checked our yellow pages and only found about half a dozen, none close to home of course.

    Thanks again for the tip.
