    from about 1910 until the late 1930's EXCEL was used on iver johnson's arms & cycle works economy grade single barrel shotgun. may have been used before that by some others but after that time it was exclusive used by iver johnson. my research has indicated that two letter code suffixes were use on iver johnson single barrel shotguns between 1930 and 1938 or so.
