  It's identical to the 45-70, but 2.4 inches long.

  Safe?
  Won't blow up a sound gun.
  Accuracy with the bullet jumping through .30" of chamber might not be too good.
  There were a lot of .45-90s shot with .45-70 before the BPCR renewal brought back 2.4" brass. Good enough to say you fired Grandpa's gun or shoot a deer out of a tree stand; probably not much for Creedmoor targets.
  
  You can probably cobble .45-90s together with .45-70 dies set .30" high in the press. Heck, friend of mine loaded .450 Express with .45-70 dies until he got a deal on the right set but there were a lot of adaptations made.
  
  What gun? That can make a difference.

  thanks hawk just asking because me and wife did. maybe a another question as this is a new caliber to me. when reloading do 45-70 dies work? and wasn't looking to shoot alot of 45-70 out of it just was what i had avaible to see how the rifle shot and funtioned,worked fine.anyway thanks kevin

  Yes, but the accuracy will suffer, especially if you are shooting the heavier (405-grain or larger) bullets. The 45-90 has a much slower twist rate (1:32) versus the 45-70 (1:22).
