pre-64 270 winchester feather weight
Hello all,
This is my first post and need some help please. I have a pre-64 270 that the safety lever has broken. It is on "fire" so I can use the gun. The problem is that the lever is broken off in the bolt. I got the gun in this condition. I am not sure how it broken off. My question is, can I get a new safety lever or do I need the entire bolt? Also were might I find such item? I have read that the 1990 270 has the same safety and will that work? Any info would help.
Thank you

Kevin,
Welcome to the forums. Call Steve at 214-802-0592, it's a Texas number, so allow for time diference. Steve is one of the best sources I've found for pre 64 parts.
Find a competent gunsmith, not a in the garage goober, and have him replace the safety lever. Where do you live in Washington? I may be able to steer you toward a good gunsmith.

like cm said find a good smith, fitting a new safty is very critical. while I haven't compaired parts, a safty off a new m-70 MAY work as they are very similar. 0 -
Yes, I live in Washington State, 1/2 hour south of Olympia, the capital. I will give Steve a call on Monday and see what he has to say. Just so I am clear there isn't a way just to slip a new safety in, it has to be fitted? This is great thank you for the help! 0 -
CapnMidnight, I couldn't wait til Monday to call, thank you very much for the help, he has what I need. I am just very thrilled, I was talking to people around here and I was looking at HUNDREDS of dollars to have this fixed, now I am looking at under a hundred, how great is that!! Again thank you![:D] 0 -
Glad I could help a fellow Washingtonian. Did you find a good gunsmith?

Gary Ryan in Winlock. He has done a few jobs for me always quality work. 0 -
I've heard he does good work. I don't have his phone number though.

That is great, he is really close to me. I even called him to see if he had a safety. He said he could make one but, money money money! 0
