Is there a HS-7 replacement?

    5mmgunguy,

I am not aware of any other powder that is the exact formula or a direct replacement for the HS-7. Powder manufacturers can't even match one lot to the next any more so why would we expect them to be able to manufacture an equivalent? There are a couple of exceptions but in general, exact equivalents don't exist.

Use this link to the Thales (ADI) Powder website .pdf of their reloading manual:

    http://www.adi-limited.com/handloaders-guide/pdfs/sphg.pdf

The left side of the page is a selectable table of contents with a chapter on 'Equivalent Powders". Select it and you will see two or three other powders that might be usable.

I am aware that you are an experienced reloader. However, and I can't stress this enough, we have to know that there is not such a thing as direct replacement. The information in these tables are suggestions, not cold hard facts. So any reloading information you find should be treated as unique and individual data. Please use a standard testing procedure to work up your loads.

    How's that for a disclaimer? [}:)]

    Best.

Go with Accurate Arms #7, the burning rate is virtually the same, and it runs through a measure like water. I used HS 7 in the distant past, after switching to the AA ball powders never went back. #7 is a excellent slow burning powder for magnum type, hunting/personal protection loads, I wouldn't be using it for target/plinking loads though. AA #2 is a much better choice for that.

rufe-snow...so AA7 would be closer to HS-7 than AA9? I was told that AA9 was closer....never mind I found it in my burn rate chart...AA7 is closer.

If you want something in that burn rate, try Hodgdon Longshot.

571 was discontinued well before HS-7.
