ok, what is an FFL and how do you get one if you dont have one?

Well I tried to get my FFL to do a small gun business in my
basement at home. I filled out the application along with picture
and fingerprint card. Waited for 45 day's and ATF contacted me wanting
to do an interview. I made arrangments for ATF to come out and go over all paper work rules,regs,ect. Everything was all good to go until zoning jumped in. I don't live in a subdivision. I live 15 miles
from the closest town. I mean I live out in the sticks....Farming area, only 2 neighbors close to me....and they are both avid hunters. Here is what the zoning laws said:
SECTION 9.11 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS GOVERNING HOME OCCUPATIONS:
Home occupations shall include the use of the premises for services rendered other than by direct contact with customers at that location (for example, where the bulk of the business is by telephone - actual work is performed in home and customer is contacted in other than that location). The following requirements shall apply to home occupations when permitted herein:
A. No persons other than members of the family residing in the premises shall be
engaged in such operation.
B. The use of the dwelling unit for the home occupation shall be clearly incidental
and subordinate to its use for residential purposes by its occupants. Not more
that twenty-five (25) percent of the gross floor area of any one floor of the
dwelling unit (including the basement or cellar) shall be used in the conduct of
the home occupation.
C. There shall be no change in the outside appearance of the building or premises,or other visible evidence of the conduct of such home occupation that will indicate from the exterior that the building is being utilized in part for any purpose other than that of a dwelling unit, except that a name plate as regulated be Article XIV of this ordinance, shall be permitted.
D. No home occupation shall be conducted in any accessory building, nor shall
there be any exterior storage of any materials on the premises.
E. There shall be no commodity sold upon the premises in connection with such home occupation.
F. No traffic shall be generated by such home occupation in greater volumes than
would normally be expected in a residential neighborhood.
G. No equipment or process, which creates noise, vibration, flare, fumes, odors, or electrical interference detectable to the normal senses off the lot, shall he used in such home occupation. In the case of electrical interference, no equipment or
process, which creates visual or audible interference in any radio or television.
ATF will NOT issue A FFL license's because of RULE # E
ATF did not have a problem with any of the rules except RULE # E
I applied for the license back in May of this year. Now I've been waiting since August for my 200.00 application fee to be refunded.
Now here is what makes me really Pi$$ed off. There is a guy that lives 10 minutes from me that is A FFL holder doing a business out of his home, and we both live in the same County!! Check this out:

By regulation you don't need a store front, but you need a permanent premises. You are not allowed to obtain an FFL for the purposes of enhancing a personal firearms collection or for operating strictly at gun shows, but internet sales are allowed and there is nothing in the regulations that requires you make any face to face retail sales at all. 0 -
I would add that it must be permissible for you to operate a business out of your licensed premises. Depending on the location you have in mind, that can be a zoning question. And I'd further point out that ATF can enter and inspect the licensed premises at any time. 0 -

By law ATF is limited to ONE unannounced compliance inspection per year. It is internet myth that ATF can inspect your premises at any time. Of course, if you committed numerous and serious errors that are discovered during that annual compliance inspection, you will be subject to more frequent compliance inspections.
The ATF compliance inspection is limited to the portion of your licensed premises where you conduct business. If you use a guest bedroom as a home office and conduct your transfers there and store your bound book and 4473's in there- that should be noted during your initial interview.
The only time ATF can "visit anytime" is when they obtain a search warrant pursuant to a criminal investigation. If the FFL is under criminal investigation the least of his worries is the ATF looking through his sock drawyer.0 -
A collector friend of mine calls the internet gun forums "the mother of misinformation". As a regular on this and a few other forums, I frequently see evidence that the description is accurate. It seems that more misinformation is posted about firearms laws than about any other topic. 0
