I have never loaded this powder in 45ACP but you are Flirting with DISASTER any time you have BULGED cases . I would check scales first and then Load another powder. Bulls-Eye powder and 231 are both fast powders and can go well above 3.5 Grains in any 1911 type pistol that has a correctly Chambered barrel without any sign of a BULGE I can't imagine any powder that would give you Bulged cases in 3.5 grain loading. Is this a factory barrel or did someone get HAPPY with a DREMEL tool trying to FIX a feed problem.

Hello I assumed this was a 9mm Luger pistol Please tell me it is not a 380 auto. . Something is totally wrong if your loads Bulge and factory ones dont. I would not shoot any more reloads until you find out what is wrong.

Where did you get that load for a 9mm [?] I can't find a load for R-1 for 9mm anywhere.

That's the fastest powder sold and probably not suitable for the 45acp.
I would guess it might be good for low flash 9mm loads.
In any event, start with below maximum, published loads.
You came close to blowing the magazine out and fragmenting the grips into your hand.
