I live in a rural farming community in northern Kalifornia and call around to the apiaries. Price vary, sometimes is free, sometimes 4 to 8 dollars per pound.

There are several companies that sell online to those who want to make candles or as candles.

My Dad was a beekeeper. As a kid, I used to go with him occasionaly when he bought supplies. Those supply places used to buy (and sell) beeswax. I'm sure there must still be places that supply beekeepers.

Only source of beeswax that I am aware of is from bees. I think you can buy honey in the honeycomb still. Take the honey out and eat it and now you can use the beeswax that is left.

One very good source is any hardware store. Most, if not all, seal rings for the Porcelain Goddess (you know, that thing you sit on in the middle of the night)are made of beeswax.

I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. Any hobby shop should have it.

Check at church. Some churches only use the best candles at the alter, and are bees wax. When they get too short they change them and i get my wax from them.

Who has the patience to wait on a bee to give you enough wax for much of anything?

It is best to have at least one hive!

Many of the bee keepers, especially those that are into harvesting much honey have a fair amount of beeswax that they take off with each hoeny harvest ... and that is generally all season long ... late wpring, summer and fall!

Just surf for honey bee keepers.
